We are excited to share a very special event with your student(s) on Monday, April 8, 2024, as we experience the solar eclipse. Please know that we are committed to making this a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience. We wanted to take a moment to share a few important announcements related to safety before, during, and after Monday’s rare and fascinating event.

Special-purpose “eclipse glasses” will be provided to every student whose family has returned the viewing permission slip to school. These eclipse glasses have solar filters in them that allow students to safely look at the sun. Teachers have been given guidance from their principals on how to properly put on and remove their glasses. Students will be informed of these safety procedures before being allowed to go outdoors.

Student safety is always our top concern, and we ask that you please help us stress the importance of NOT looking at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun without proper safety glasses. At no time should students remove their eclipse glasses and look directly at the sun as it could cause permanent damage to the eyes.

For students whose families did not return the eclipse viewing permission slip, these students will remain indoors during the event. They will also be learning about the eclipse on Monday but will be kept inside for the duration of the event.

As you likely have heard, thousands of tourists are expected to be in the area on Monday, which could cause traffic delays. Our top priority is to deliver your child home safely. Please be patient with us as we run our afternoon bus routes, as heavy traffic that afternoon could slow us down.

We look forward to sharing this memorable event with our students. Thank you for your continued trust and support of our school district.
