Cape Girardeau Public Schools (CGPS) is excited to announce the hiring of Derek Gohn as the new athletic director for Cape Central High School (CHS). Gohn comes to CHS from Jackson Middle School where he currently serves as the Health and Physical Education Teacher. He’s an assistant coach for Jackson High’s football and wrestling teams, while also working as the Wrestling Director for the Jackson Optimist Program’s robust and successful youth wrestling program. 

“We are very proud to welcome Mr. Gohn to the Tiger family,” said Nancy Scheller, Cape Central High’s principal.  “He is a forward-thinking leader who is driven and interested in growing our young people into well-rounded, respectful citizens. We cannot wait for him to join our team.”

“My family and I are extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to be part of Cape Girardeau Public Schools,” said Mr. Gohn. “I have tremendous respect for the District’s current success. I can’t wait to work with the coaches and the community to continue shaping the experiences of our student-athletes in a positive way.” 

Mr. Gohn holds a Masters in Education Administration from William Woods and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeast Missouri State University where he played outside linebacker and long snapper for the Redhawks.  He will officially join the CHS staff on July 1st.
